Algunas Organizaciones No Gubernamentales se dedican a sobredimensionar el problema del desaleteo del tiburón en Costa Rica para captar recursos económicos para sus intereses.
Así lo denunció este jueves el Instituto de Pesca y Acuicultura, luego de dar a conocer un balance de las labores en contra de esta práctica ilegal.
El presidente de Incopesca, Luis Dobles, dijo que si bien el desaleteo es un tema importante, en nuestro país no tiene la magnitud que informan los ambientalistas.
Según Dobles, este año han realizado 3 mil 530 inspecciones en los muelles de Puntarenas, Limón, Golfito y Guanacaste, muchas de ellas dirigidas a las embarcaciones que descargan tiburón.
De ellos, sólo en dos se detectaron irregularidades, como el caso de la embarcación HUNG CHI FU condenada en primera instancia por el Juzgado Penal de Puntarenas, y EL WANG JIA MEN, actualmente enfrenta un procesado de investigación por parte de la fiscalía de Puntarenas.

Please allow me to respond to the item on shark finning in English. As an ocean conservationist I feel personally offended by the statement of Mr. Luis Dbles wh states that the finning problem is exaggerated. I have been to Cocos Island more than once and the amount of illegal fisherboats there is huge and what do you think these boats come all that way for ? Not small fis, no, they can catch that closer to home, but the large stuff o.a. sharks, where better to find those than around "The Island of the Sharks". It is obvious that some Costa Rican fisherman are still finning, just look at the incident on malpelo a few weeks ago, the way Mr. Gordon Ramsey was threatened by finners when he tried to expose the problem, the movie Sharkwater, ... I thaught journalism was supposed to be unbiased but after this I doubt that, how can a journalist just air and publish this without even checking and giving the other side the opportunity to proove their view.
